There are two main parts to the Making Home Affordable program, Refinancing & Modification: Part 1 of the program is designed to help homeowners who are current on their mortgage payments, but unable to refinance their homes to a lower interest rate because the value of their home has dropped significantly. These homeowners may now be able to refinance into a 30 or 25 year, fixed rate loan. Part 2 of the program is designed to help homeowners who are struggling to afford their mortgage payments and are facing foreclosure. In addition, on June 15, 2009California foreclosure moratorium laws went into effect. |
The Making Home Affordable is designed for homeowners who live in their home, had their current mortgage on or before 1/1/09, have a monthly mortgage payment that is more than 31 percent of their total monthly income, and owe on your first mortgage, less that $729,750 |
